This year CBCA Book Week runs from 17 to 23 October and the theme is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. As part of our yearlong celebration, we invite teachers, librarians, and all educators to join us for a second week of events November 4-10, or if you are joining us for the first time, we welcome you! The longest running literacy initiative in the country, this celebration of books and reading for young people is closely connected with the rise and cultural importance of children’s literature itself. Every year, we encourage schools and libraries to inspire children everywhere to love reading for fun. Inclusion in our national promotional campaign: locations will be highlighted on social media, on our website, and through national press releases. At its core, Children’s Book Week is a wonderful opportunity for kids and teens to connect with books and book creators, and to give teachers, librarians, booksellers, and educators a structured but fun annual occasion to celebrate the love of reading that takes place coast to coast all in one glorious week. The event is SO popular that the organizers run 2 different weeks of celebration and activity: Events take place in schools, libraries, bookstores and within your own home should you choose! a resource of news for teachers, parents and all those advice about books for kids and teens, including a great guide to ‘best of’ book lists in many categories. This kit will encourage connection, collaboration and creation. Initially set up by the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America, who in turn recruited Frederic G. Melcher, the visionary editor of Publishers Weekly who believed that “a great nation is a reading nation,” and Anne Carroll Moore, the Superintendent of Children’s Works at the New York Public Library and a major figure in the library world.
